He remained one of the top golfers for a phase of 40 years and hence is often referred to as an example of a passionate golfer. In his career, he won 82 PGA tours and in 1998, he was awarded the PGA tour lifetime achievement honor. He never won a US Open yet he remained there as a runner-up four times.
