Cesare Pavese was an Italian poet born on 9 September 1908 in Santo Stefano Belbo, Piedmont, Italy. Apart from being an Italian poet, by occupation, he was also a novelist, literary critic, and translator. He is regarded as the most prolific writer of the 20th century.
